What YFIBIGO can do
Given these problems, YFIBIGO strategic interventions involves campaign for the designing and implementing programmes tailored for Canadian context, but also bridging international ideas given our scope.
- a) Prevention & Resilience-Building Programmes
- Run workshops in schools and communities that build mental health literacy, coping skills, peer-support and emotional resilience.
- Design modules on digital citizenship, managing screen-time/social media, anti-bullying, inclusion combined with curriculum design principles with psychosocial development insights, for effective modules that has –
1) Its Foundational Frameworks re-define values like empathy, respect, safety, participation, and rights/responsibilities in digital spaces – in line with UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education (GCED) framework, ISTE Digital Citizenship Standards (International Society for Technology in Education), UNICEF Child Online Protection (COP) Guidelines, Ontario Ministry of Education’s Digital Literacy & Wellbeing Guidelines (for Canada context)
2) Have the Core Components of the Focus Areas that start with ‘Digital Citizenship’ to make the key learning goals- ‘teach youth to act ethically and responsibily online.’ The focus on ‘Managing Screen Time,’ to ‘help youth balance online/offline life and recognize digital fatigue.’ The Focus on ‘Social Media Literacy, ‘help ‘build critical thinking about contents, trends, misinformation and privacy.’ Focus on ‘Cyber Bullying and Respect,’ to teach empathy, bystander intervention and Reporting Mecahnisms.’ The Focus on ‘Inclusion and Diversity Online’ help ‘foster inclusive communication, Representation, and Cultural respects.’
3) Make instructional Design Steps have ‘Cultural Relevance’ that use local examples of African, Canadian, or global youth cases, and align values with YFIBIGO organization’s philosophy of moral reconstruction and cooperative living.
4) Cross-cutting Themes (have distinct modules) – YFIBIGO integrates Moral Philosophy by linking digital ethics to African communal values (ubuntu, cooperation, respect). To achieve behavioral improvement by treating online behavior as part of overall personal discipline and self-management. Our emphasis on Global Citizenship be on empathy, justice, and digital participation for good causes.
- b) Mentorship and Career Linkage
- YFIBIGO connects youth with mentors (professionals, older youth, community leaders) to provide guidance on education, career paths, life skills.
- Specifically help youth coming from disadvantaged backgrounds: newcomers, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+.
- c) Community-Engagement, Belonging & Identity
- Foster safe spaces (physical/virtual) where youth can gather, share, express identity and build community.
- Create initiatives that draw on cultural identity, heritage and philosophy – something that ties well with YFIBIGO African-philosophy education orientation. To include immigrant-youth forums, cross-cultural dialogues, etc.
- Partner with schools, local NGOs, municipalities to embed programming in trusted venues.
- d) Targeted Outreach for High-Risk Youth
- For youth who are disengaged from school or work, or facing homelessness, trauma, YFIBIGO designs wrap-around support: mental health referral, life skills (housing, budgeting), job-readiness, safe mentoring.
- Collaborate with existing local services (in Toronto/Ontario or Canada-wide) to build referral pathways.
- e) Advocacy, System-Change and Partnerships
- YFIBIGO uses research and data to advocate for policy changes (better youth mental-health funding, inclusive services, anti-racism in education).
- Build partnerships with community organisations, schools, and Canadian government agencies.
- Serve as a voice for youth globally and locally: spotlight stories, engage diaspora, mobilise resources.
